Maarja Palu
Maarja Palu jewellery style is generally characterized by minimalist and clear forms, which simultaneously express playful and intriguing explorations of shapes. The handcrafted jewellery analyzes lines and geometric forms created by natural movements and captures these impulses in silver.
“I like minimalism because it offers a greater challenge for me – how to capture an interesting moment in a piece of jewellery while maintaining a clear and easily understandable form.”
Maarja Palu is from Kihnu, a small Estonian island with a close-knit community of about 700 people. Kihnu’s residents maintain their culture through traditional dress, handicrafts, ancient songs, music, and dance, while also embracing modern amenities. These traditions are daily practices that distinguish Kihnu Islanders from mainland Estonians.
Maarja graduated in 2021 from Viljandi Culture Academy with a specialization in native metalwork.
